The Sony PD150 that we use on the game drive vehicle has developed a bad connection on it’s video out port. This has probably happened because of the constant bumping and vibration that the camera is subjected to on safari. As a result WE have been loosing video from the game drive vehicle and have had to shorten the last few drives for which we are sorry.
WE have temporarily borrowed a video camera from Djuma and will be putting a new camera on a flight to Djuma, from Johannesburg, as soon as we can organise a flight.
You may have noticed that we have been having trouble with our sound from the waterholes. Well we have been struggling to find the exact cause of the problem, but it seems to be getting better … on its own (a bit worrying!)
WE are going to be doing quite a few behind the scenes upgrades starting on Wednesday next week. These upgrades are designed to not only improve the number of simultaneous streams that we can serve, but also improve the video and audio quality that we broadcast. WE will keep you updated on these improvements.
WildEarth does hear you, the viewer, and WE sympathise with the frustrations you are having trying to get onto the game drive. Ultimately your patience will be rewarded and WE promise that we will never stop endeavouring to bring you the best possible LIVE wildlife experience. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.
Just a reminder, as I learned from Elaine, it really does help to disable your firewall during the connection process (I don’t know why but my firewall blocks the feed sometimes, not always, so I shut it down for a bit). And, there is something you also need to do to your cookie settings–allow a certain kind of cookie considered not secure. Change your settings from intranet to internet.
All that, plus the equity of resetting things on the WE end prior to drives, has helped me get on several night (morning for me) drives–the ones I love the most.
And I need to repeat something I’ve said elsewhere: whoever is copying our posts from the BOMA and putting them here, please be sure to copy the entire thread to keep posts in context, and, don’t forget to ask Africam for their permission as they have the copyright, I believe, to everything posted on the BOMA forum.
As for the value of this and do we (meaning Bomites or Africam people as we have been mistakenly referred to) appreciate the effort, time, technology, money, talent, blood sweat and tears it takes to bring this amazing experience into our homes across the globe? Well, Duh! Of course we do. But please don’t try to silence us if we chat in our own forum about our disappointment when we miss a drive.
And to Helen, Nick, Pieter, Haley, Jan, Rodney, everyone involved: we welcome you into our hearts and homes and positively appreciate your work and talents. Give us a shout-out sometime. Bomites love you, don’t take the heckling personally. I’ve been on a total of four drives I think since this all started and I was on the lucky ones, with the Wild Dogs and the Leopard and those amazing herds of Elephant, and Buff’s. And I never knew about a Nyala until you showed me one. And the bird life! And the small nocturnal creatures! And a Serval. See, we are very happy and not such terrible people as some have painted us.

The previous post concerning Colmaca “admitting” to having 9 connections is incorrect. If you will go to that post on the Africam Boma site, you will see that several people were joking around about getting on the WE drive. Colmaca said he had “79” connections as part of the joke. Another one jokingly thanked him for leaving 1 connection open for everyone else, etc.!
People, please don’t always believe what you read. Check it out first!

The bump is doing nothing for letting some people on to watch these drives. this person admits to having multiple connections.

Thank you for the info. I was able to access the Game Drive when it was first being set up but since then…..never. Only the black screen. But until access is broadened I will be content with the Djuma live picture cam.

Thank you very much for keeping us so fully informed of the difficulties you encounter in giving us a bumpy safari ride and the ways and manners in which you try to solve the problems. I, for one, have noting but admiration for your tenacity and you do not seem to lose your good humour – even very early in the morning!
I do enjoy the elephants and I hope Nick finally succeeds in tracking down a lion, he is trying so hard.
