No cubs yet! Helen and Nick are leaving WE!

Nobody has seen Karula’s cubs since Tyson stole her duiker kill. This morning Nick found the tracks of a single leopard cub not far from our camp. Although WE have no actual information everyone in camp is very positive that they will be seen soon. There is a great deal of leopard activity at Djuma at the moment and it is definitely a dangerous time for Karula and her little family.

Nick and Helen are leaving WildEarth. Nick is immigrating to Canada with Helen for whom it will be going home. They have worked for many many years in the bush and the time has come to go and start a new life in the big city. They will miss the bush and WE will all miss them terribly. WE are having a big farewell party for them on Friday the 27th July at Djuma and their final drive will be on the Saturday afternoon of the 28th July. Maybe when they come back to visit, WE will be able to convince them to do a nostalgic drive …

They have been an incredible team and have been with us from before the beginning. They were there when WE first began trenching and building masts and helped WildEarth create its personality … they will always be in our nature. WE will never forget their dedication, commitment and talent. They will always have the honour of the first LIVE Big 5 drive.

WE will enjoy their last week in the bush together.

I am sure I am speaking for all the Bomites when I say we will miss Nick and Helen terribly. Nicks hyperness, Helens talent for spotting critters and her bubbly personality.. I am sure you will find good people to replace them, but they will have big shoes to fill!
Nick and Helen, all the best of luck in Canada, I bet Bushnut is delighted, and remember we will never forget the drives you guys have taken us on and everything you’ve given us.

For the rest of WE; keep up the good work!

Thank you Helen and Nick for all you have given to WE and to us, your viewers and fans. You will be missed.

All my best wishes to Nick and Helen for much success and happiness in whatever they tackle next. They will be missed something fierce. With Nick’s combination of knowledge and goofy humor, Helen’s eagle eye for spotting wildlife and her gentle laugh, and their obvious love of all the furred and feathered creatures of the bush, the bar has been set very high for their replacements.

And guys….make sure you pack those heavy jackets, hats and mittens. South African winters ain’t nuthin’! As someone who lives not too far from the Canadian border…..the winters here are COLD!!!!

    Bon voyage!!

    You will be greatly missed.
All the best to you in future.

Just now read the News. I have been noticing the little twinkle in your eye this week Nick as you look at Helen. I new ‘something’ was up..was wondering if it was a ‘youngster’ (hugs) Maybe it is. And Helen – I have been wondering if you were Canadian since I didn’t seen to hear and Accent. LOL – I hope you end up here in Vancouver..no snow to shovel..and lots of Marine mammels to study! I wish you both the best in this next phase of your lives. And thank you for all you have taught us..and the love of Nature you have shared. (Praying I’ll get on as many of your ‘last drives’ as I can!

do you have a list of the radio lingo somewhere? ie: ingwe is leopard and ngala is lion. i know pieter mentioned these on one of his drives but its hard for some to understand the african accent and know how to spell the words. it would be great if you could post a list somewhere or let us viewers know of where to find one.

Nick and Helen, you will be missed terribly. I am always so happy when I see that it’s Nick behind the wheel, with Helen’s ability to spot the game from afar and your giggles. When the animals are scarce, I know Nick will sing us a song. I’ll never forget the Big 5 drive, and will forever be grateful for your dedication to the viewers to find the game. I wish you well as you start your new adventure in Canada – but selfishly wish you were staying right where your are. Raising a glass to much love, success and happiness to you both.

A Poem For Nick & Helen

You brought us fun and laughter,
You brought us lots of facts,
    And here forever after,
    Your leave your lasting tracks.

It’s sad that you are leaving.
We will miss you when you go,
    But always be believing
You have helped us all to grow.

We wish you happiness and love.
    We know you’ll be okay
Because we know one thing above
    We will meet again someday.

I was watching the last game drive with Nick and Helen and I really have to say I’m going to miss them both. Nick always made me feel that any minute we were going to see something wonder and exciting around the next corner on the drive and Helen always showed it to us through the view of the camera. She always made sure that we could see the wildlife just perfect, almost like we were viewing it through her eyes.Canada’s gain will be our loss and I hope they know how lucky they are. We will miss you both greatly and hope that you both have a wonderful and exciting new beginning in Canada.

Just back online this week in time to go on these last two drives with Nic at the wheel and Helen at the lens. I’m so sad that you are leaving and will miss the exciting, informative rides you have brought us as well as the chuckles and giggles. Humor is such a big part of the fun of the rides, as well as your enthusiasm and love of the bush and critters. Best wishes to you and here’s hoping you’ll keep in touch in some way perhaps on one of the forums (there are Wild Earth forums and My Africa Forums as well as the BOMA so there are many ways to keep in touch). Safe journey and we’ll all look at the moon and think of you. Affectionately, Smalldog.
