As most of you know by now, WildEarth has partnered with &Beyond to bring to you a daily LIVE safari from Ngala Private Game Reserve along with our regular drives from Djuma. There will be three guides who take you on safari from &Beyond Ngala and we want to introduce them to you.

Nikki Muller
Nikki’s contagious enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation was instilled at an early age. Growing up on his family’s farm in South Africa’s Free State. Nikki gained hands-on experience implementing sustainable farming practices, meticulously recording rare plant species, rehabilitating previously disturbed areas and completing several environmental education programmes.
This invaluable experience and unwavering passion for the environment would go on to shape Nikki’s future. He completed a qualification in Nature Conservation and Game Farm Management in 2015 and then enrolled at &Beyond’s Inkwazi Ranger Training School at &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve. A true gentleman and animal lover at heart, Nikki remains actively involved in caring for the land, wildlife and people and firmly believes that conservation should not be a job, but rather a lifestyle that is practised each and every day.

Roan du Plessis
At the young, impressionable age of seven, it was one particular private safari in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Game Reserve that sparked Roan’s lifelong passion for wildlife. On the final morning of their family adventure, their guide, Ian, asked if Roan would like to help him with the tracking. Without hesitation, Roan scrambled into the tracker’s seat and those 30 minutes, pointing out every animal he could see, changed his life forever.
Over the years, Roan’s father would ask him what he intended to study after high school. His answer never changed: Roan wanted to become a game ranger. And so, a father/son deal was made. Roan’s father committed to supporting Roan through a university degree of his choice, and following graduation, Roan could pursue the career of his dreams, whatever that may be.
Roan completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Geographical Sciences at the University of Cape Town and during his study breaks, he completed as many wildlife courses as possible. In 2014, Roan joined &Beyond’s Inkwazi Ranger Training School at &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve and upon graduation, joined the &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve guiding team.
&Beyond Ngala is home to Roan and it is here that he truly discovered his passion for animal behaviour and wildlife photography. He has explored every corner of the reserve and continues to authentically live his motto: “love the life you live”.

Shaun Marshall
Born and raised in South Africa, Shaun grew up going on safari with his family. His childhood days were always spent outdoors and with diverse, wildlife-filled landscapes such as the Kruger National Park and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve on his doorstep, it came as no surprise that Shaun would pursue a life dedicated to Africa’s wild places.
Shaun’s curiosity for nature extended to human nature too, and he went on to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Stellenbosch. His passion for learning and exploring soon took him abroad to Thailand, where he spent a year teaching English to children, followed by six months of training to become a certified scuba divemaster.
Upon his eventual return to South Africa, Shaun had decided with unwavering certainty that he would dedicate himself to a career in nature. He enrolled at &Beyond’s Inkwazi Ranger Training School at &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in 2017, and upon graduation, joined the &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve guiding team.
With an ever-positive attitude and keen interest in the natural world, Shaun is happiest when he is outdoors. For him, guiding is the perfect combination of understanding wildlife and people, and he thrives on the enjoyment of others.
hi, there :-).
I warmly just want to say “Thank you” – for sharing the bush, for your humoristic entertainment (although I am not able to understand everything :-D), for everything, which makes it easier to cope with our current situation. I love to go on safari with you all! And I hope to be allowed to make this experience myself asap. Stay healthy!! Best wishes from Austria.
You cannort imagine what an absolute joy it is to watch your Sunrise and Sunset Safari every day when you are now in your eighties and those wonderful trips to Kruger don’t happen anymore. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved in bringing this to us – love all the Rangers and I’m trying hard not to name a favourite – but James Hendry I just love your sense of humour.
I’m new to the channel and I’m absolutely hooked already . It is so inspiring to see that you guys and girls love what you do. I’m an avid nature enthusiast and photographer. I love the fact that you stop and take interest in the smaller animals, birds and insects. You have made lockdown bearable thanks so much
I’m so grateful for WildEarth, I’ve watched for Years! I’m loving Ngala and the guides there are Great! It’s always Great seeing our regular guides and the Wild Animals! I’m Anita and my husband just ordered my Birthday gift of a Tank Shirt with Tingana on it, can’t wait to get it! Will be making donation to WildEarth tomorrow to show how Thankful for WildEarth and all involved in bringing it to us. The guides still smile and share the animals with us and add fun to learning. I know it has to be hard for them in this uncertain time we’re all going through with COVID-19. Hopefully we will all go back to normal and this disease can be stopped! Thank y’all again So Much!
Loving joining in to go on Safari from home. Just a comment – while enthusiasm is great, less is sometimes more…seems the younger guys feels obliged to fill the silence at times, which drowns out the bush
I miss being there physically so these live streaming safaris are the best especially now.
Thank you! 🦁
Oh wow, we as a family are hooked. Can’t wait to sit with a cup of coffee at 6am to go on our morning game drive and then again in the afternoons. Each guide is so knowledgeable and every game drive just thoroughly enjoyable. Just love, love the beautiful wildlife, from the animals to the birds and the trees. Thanks for taking us on the story of Ribbon and of course the Leopards. It was fantastic seeing the two cubs this morning. Love James and his sense of humour. Thank you to the whole team for keeping us entertained on this wonderful journey during this really tough time that we are all experiencing.
We stayed at Ngala a few years ago and your live Safaris bring back a host of memories and are amazing. Much more realistic than the Attenborough programmes when everything is ‘perfect’ , Charles and Jenny Henry. As we had an impala enter our cottage at Lewa (much bigger than they appear from a vehicle) we thought that we would buy one to support WildEarth. Keep up the great work in these difficult times.
Thank you so much for the game drives.
I looked this first in this morning.
See you in the evening. Jutta
fantasties, julle kennis is wonderlik. As ‘n natuurmens waardeer ek dit opreg. DANKIE
I whish everyone could discover your WildEarth excursions on YouTube. I hope you will bear the fruits of your effort to share the most beautiful wild life area on our planet with the rest of the world. We are so modest about our great natural asset in South Africa, that we totally forget to tell the world about it. Your whole impromptu presentation of the four game rangers/naturalists, without background music which will only spoil the atmosphere, is brilliant.
I have only discovered you guys in the past few days and omg how you have enhanced, enriched and brought such pure joy into these dark times. Seriously, I am totally obsessed. The combination of humour and in depth knowledge is utterly addictive. You have given me my go-to antidote to Coronavirus angst. Thank you so so much.
I see that people are sending comments and requests to the guides, please can you tell me how to do this. I would love more birds.
Really enjoyed James’ comment on the ‘mountain’ in CT. I’m from Joburg and have lived in Bloubergstrand now for the last 3 years and I couldn’t agree with you more about the wind here. How I miss the Bush!!!
How often do lions mate
What a superb way to spend a few hours locked in my own home due to Covid lock down. To all the guides, thank you. The commentary is excellent and fun and while we all want to see lions and ellies and leopards seeing birds and smaller mammals is just as good. Thanks for helping my wife and I to pass the time. Just wish I was actually there.
Hi everyone.
My home town is Pretoria but I am currently waiting out the Covid-19 lockdown in Abu Dhabi. Being separated from my family is really tough and being cooped up alone in an apartment does not make it easier. Knowing my love for the South African wilds, my eldest daughter recently sent me a link to Wild Earth. What an awesome experience. The Djuma live cam and the daily drives are the highlights of my day and help to keep me in touch with reality. I look forward to being able to follow this amazing discovery up with a real life visit to your reserve. Thank you for bringing the call of the wilds to me.
Regards
Rob
Hi Ngala
Real fan of your live drives and love the commentary. Please show us more bird life. We have had a lot of game park trips and your drives are tops.
Kid at heart
David [79}
I am a new watcher of Wild Earth Ngala and love it. James and Lorna [Loch Ness] (or is it Laura? apologies if I have it wrong) both have a delightful sense of humor. Lorna, how did you end up in South Africa? Both my grandparents came from Edinburgh?
I am a Campbell so if there is any connection to the MacDonalds you need not answer!
David 79 yr old “kid”
Hi there.
I just LOVE your live safari. I have just one concern. The guides talk about all the background noise, like the rasping of an elephant’s skin when walking. Also, the sound of the doves in the early morning. We don’t hear that. I would love it, so that it feels I am in the vehicle with the guides. We hear the guides perfectly, just no background sounds. Please help if at all possible
Kind regards
Joy
My Happy place is being in the bush. I absolutely love your programme I feel as though I’m at hone. Will this programme be ongoing or just no on lockdown
Shaun, that lion experience was absolutely amazing today as was the leopard encounter this morning! 🤗 Sue (KEA’s mom)
